IAS 2015: Broadly Neutralizing Antibodies Against HIV [VIDEO]

Broadly neutralizing antibodies that can recognize multiple strains of HIV may be one component of a combination strategy to achieve long-term HIV remission, experts said at a media briefing on HIV cure research at the 8th International AIDS Society Conference on HIV Pathogenesis, Treatment, and Prevention this week in Vancouver.

John Mascola from the U.S. National Institutes of Health described progress in
broadly neutralizing antibody research at the IAS Towards an HIV Cure Symposium preceding the conference and at a satellite session on injectable options for HIV prevention and treatment. Highlights from the symposium were presented at a conference media briefing.
"Some HIV-infected individuals make remarkably potent antibodies against the virus," Mascola said. "Researchers have been able to isolate those antibodies, so we have them in hand as potential clinical products now, and they can potentially be used either for prevention of infection or treatment of infection"
